Project Nartherael Update

Project Nartherael has a new comic and a new layout! :D

NOTE: I only have Firefox, so I can't tell if the layout is ok in other browsers. So please let me know if the layout looks broken.

And yes, I realise the navigation buttons aren't aligned very well, I'm working on that. ^_^;

Time Traveling Computer

My computer can travel through time! D:

Please explain? D: How does it know I will edit a file tomorrow?

No it isn't Photoshopped, it actually happened. D:

In other news:

Episode 2 of Project Nartherael is online!

And congrats to Melissa and Chaz on their engagement! :D

Webcomic

While it seems like I haven't been doing much, I've actually been very busy with a webcomic Dane and I have been working on (he's writing, I'm illustrating). It's called Project Nartherael, and it's a fun, random comic where we parody whatever we feel like parodying at the time.

Currently our focus is on Metal Gear Solid, but we're going to feature various internet-related silliness as well - The title page should give hints. XD

Please check out Project Nartherael and let us know what you think. :D

And no, I haven't forgotten about all the other art requests, I'll get them done soon! :)

Artist Appreciation

The one and only exam is over, and so are the assignments. :) Time for some fun.

I will be working on art commissions, a collaborative comic, maybe more. My website is long overdue for a revamp (lots of dead links and such) but there is a reason for that - Because I will do one massive overhaul and rebuild it all - When I get the chance.

Christine is making me a crochet dragon. I challenged her! Bwahaha! No seriously, she is a very nice lady who also draws really cute stuff. The crochet I've seen from her is so adorable; from tiny puff monsters to a rather-detailed Dalek. :D

Plus, I appreciate all those people keeping up traditional hand-made crafts. Sure, you find a lot that look ugly or tacky, but it's like people who make original artwork - There's so much effort - So much more heart and soul put into the work. If it looks good, or if it looks bad, I love seeing people have a go! Not "oh I can't" or "oh it will look bad" - So what? Try and feel good you're doing something with your own hands! It's normal for anyone to turn out bad work on their first try - they practice - that's how the skilled people become skilled!

Break Time!

Well, school is just about over. I have 2 more small assignments and an exam coming up. But that's about it.

I'm still open for a few art requests - I don't care if I only earn a few dollars, I just want some experience and maybe a little extra money; since getting a job for just a few weeks seems kinda pointless. Plus I have to prepare myself for the next semester of study anyway.

There's also some fiction and role-playing community projects I'm working on as well - Still looking for expression of interest.

Queues:

Drawing.
1. Rachael (remaking request from ages ago - plan to finish this time!)
2. Christine
3. [open]

Pixel-art.
1. Mazz
2. Seticat
3. Diane

When they're done, I will add more slots.

Spare Time - Commissions

Starting next week, I'm going to have some spare time until the next school semester begins.

So during that time, I will attempt to get some work done for Nartherael (Dane's site) - as well as take a couple of art commissions - and finish the ones I've started. ^_^;

Some of Nartherael's projects include role-playing games, which we're in the process of setting up background info for. If you like role-playing or writing stories - Speak to us, because we might have something you can participate in!

So about my commissions, please take a look at my portfolio. Prices vary depending on the request - I can be flexible with payments - You must also be willing to wait a few weeks because I have other projects running at the same time.

I'm happy to draw requests for cartoon animals, chibis, anthropomorphic animals, etc. ^_^ I'll probably take 1 or 2 requests for now so I have time help Dane with his projects.

And for a limited time, I'm offering free requests for dolls on the base (template) shown in a previous entry. 7/15 are available - and after that, I will charge a small fee - Unless I think you're awesome. ;)

Please comment here or email louise at agmyst.net!

Selling Fan Art

Whether or not it's illegal, or whether or not you care about the law, I believe selling fan art is morally wrong.

It's not right to profit from someone else's idea, no matter the shape or form. Only the original creator has the right to gain profit or fame from their idea.

Yes... People are trying to sell fan art, but I bet they wouldn't get any offers if it was original characters. See, that's the point? If it's not someone famous or known, who cares! That seems to make it ok to make their fame/profit from other peoples creations?

Who is with me?

City of Heroes

Well, thanks for telling me how crap my drawings and pixel art are. :) Only one person commented (thanks Christine), and yet I thought more people visited my site. Well, maybe you're all busy or not interested, and if so, that's ok. :)

You'd think I'd be spending any free time I can get on drawing and pixelling - But no, sometimes you have to do things just for fun... And while most internet nerdy people would be playing WoW (World of Warcraft), I play City of Heroes!

Why do I like CoH? Well apart from the limitless character customisation, it's really simple and fun to play. I find that whenever I feel like beating up somebody, I can just log into the game and do that. Plus, it is a MMO so you can play with friends - And the scoring system is set up fairly - Everyone gets a chance. And there's loads of fun emotes you can do - which I've demonstrated in some of the screenshots below... :P

Friday 5: Needles (and some art!)

  1. When was the last time you had a needle stuck into you?
    I can't remember. Maybe that's a good thing.
  2. Who among your friends is the easiest target for needling?
NO ONE! Because it's not nice!
  3. What’s something you can confidently do with a needle and thread?
    Sew a button... lol...
  4. About how many phonograph records do you have in your home, and when’s the last time you dropped a needle on one?
None (if that's referring to vinyl records) :( But my dad has a lot and Dane has some too.
  5. Someone told us the other day about someone at a party using a flavor injector to spike a watermelon with vodka. Is this brilliant or is this stupid?
    Stupid!

From Friday5.org

Okay, enough filling my journal with stupid memes! Here's some drawings from recent weeks:

A new design for an old character, Taruto
A kitty face :3
An Apatosaurus (everyone calls Apatosaurus "Brontosaurus" by mistake! >_< brontosaurus isn't a real dinosaur!)

And a pixel paper-doll and base (not available for use yet) - also from a couple weeks ago.

Tarutopaperdoll base

If anyone wishes, I'll take a few free requests for dolls. :) Although you'll have to be willing to wait a week because I have other priorities. (And no, they don't have to be anthro.)

Friday 5: Spicy!

  1. How do you feel about spicy food?
I love it! I love a good Indian curry and I love eating at Nando's.
  2. What kinds of condiments do you add to food in order to spice things up a bit?
Usually black pepper or sometimes tobasco sauce.
  3. Not counting salt and pepper, what's your favorite flavor enhancer when cooking?
    Cinnamon.
  4. What's the spiciest food you've ever eaten?
Probably some ridiculously hot Indian or Thai curry Dane's dad made.
  5. In what way might some other aspect of your daily life be spiced up, and what's keeping that from happening right now?
Well, that often involves spending money. And I don't earn enough money to afford spicing things up. :(

From Friday5.org. Even though it's Saturday today. LOL

Never fear! One day I should have something genuinely interesting to post about!

Orphan Works Legislation

"A new bill in the US will make it legal for anyone to do anything with your art" - This is what I've been hearing lately on the subject on copyright.

The "Orphan Works" bill aims to legalise using someone's copyrighted work if you absolutely can't find the original author/artist. This has benefits for really old photographs and videos which may not have attribution; However, many artists are seeing this as an official legal way to steal anyone's art without consequences.

Under this bill, anyone can use your work, even for profit, if they can't locate you with a "reasonable search." (Even now, I laugh at that phrase, WTF is "reasonable" on an internet full of billions of images) (source)

So basically, this may lead people to think, "Oh I don't know who made this, therefore I don't need to ask/credit them" without making an attempt to find and contact the author/artist. Which of course, is a very EXTREME misunderstanding - If there is a possibility of finding and contacting the original artist, then it MUST be done!

Note: This bill only applies to the USA.

If you make something 100% original yourself, then the copyright should belong to you (unless you give up the rights) - This means you have the right to say whether or not other people can use your work for other things. Your copyright is not lost when work is uploaded to the internet and should not be lost in other countries (although they all have different laws).

Sci-Fi vs. Fantasy

Neets has asked, "where the line is really drawn between fantasy and sci-fi?" And I have answered...

Science-fiction and fantasy often go together, but sometimes they don't. A sci-fi world can be considered a fantasy world (as opposed to being present-day, real-world Earth) but it doesn't have to be. And likewise, a strictly fantasy setting can involve sci-fi elements.

The difference is that sci-fi brings about issues and challenges the way we think: Is it right to clone? Should we capture and/or kill aliens? Can artificial intelligence have a soul? Is the world we know reality or just an illusion? Sci-fi often explores the "What ifs?" of technology and alternate-views we might not consider.

A "fantasy world" is simply any world or setting which does not exist in the present day, real-world Earth. A fantasy setting could be Middle Earth, outer space, a genetics lab, Atlantis, the mesozoic era or a person's imagination.

If you take sci-fi out of fantasy, you basically get a Dungeons & Dragons sort of adventure story. Or maybe a drama or romance novel.

The Mudkip Invasion

I can add another to the list of reasons why I don't like deviantART.

I can understand why turning everyone's avatar into a Mudkip might be funny, but it's really just encouraging foolish behavior on the internet. Oh wait... When was the internet ever serious? Well I try to be. But I try not to be boring also - I like fun - But I hate to think that everywhere I go, everyone is just a moron more willing to go "OMG U LIEKZ MUDKIPZ!" than show some intelligence.

To make things worse, there were even sillier folk who felt right to take legal action against the avatar prank. What the..? Is logging out for 24 hours a problem? (I'm usually not on the internet from Friday - Monday.)

"Mudkip" a joke? I'm more likely to laugh when I hear "deviantART".

Intelligent life. Does it exist?

Daylight Savings Glitch

Some mobile phones and/or computers may be displaying the wrong time. Some networks have switched back the clocks a week early. Of course it can be fixed by manually setting the time.

Oh and yeah we did turn off our lights for an hour last night. :) Enjoyed a movie during that time.

I'm not really one for these strike/protest things, unless there's a possibility of it working. Judging by what I've seen here, it might just be working.

Anyway, the strike starts officially NOW for this timezone. :P
